How can I fix "show additional replies including those that may contain offensive content" on Twitter?
I posted on Twitter and my tweet got replies. I was happy and wanted to check what people comment under my content. When I clicked on replies, I saw this:
"Show additional replies, including those that may contain offensive content".
I didn't understand what it means but anyway, I clicked on "Show".
Nothing happened. Just emptiness. No replies, offensive or innocent..
I don't think it was an illusion or Twitter hunts people with click bait.
There has to be some replies but why can't I see them? How can I fix "Show additional replies, including those that may contain offensive content" issue? I started searching..
After my digging, I found 3 possible reasons why I can't see additional replies under my Twitter posts.
Let me show you one by one.
Suspect Number 1: Temporary Label
I found a phenomenon on Twitter called "temporary label". People talks about it a lot and I think it can be a reason why we don't see additional replies on our posts.
When you get temporary label, you will see this notification:
"We've added a temporary label to your account which may impact its reach. Learn more"
Why does it happen? As far as I understand, Twitter temporary label is added to your account because of "unusual activities". What are those activities?
- Multiple account logins on the same browser
- Multiple likes or retweets in a short time
- Spammy behaviors
Now, let's take a closer look at these "spammy behaviors". I classified spammy behaviors on Twitter in 3 groups:
1. Content-Related Spam:
- Duplicative or Substantially Similar Content: Repeatedly posting the exact same tweet, link, or image, either from one account or across multiple accounts you control. This includes scheduling the same content at different times to bypass detection.
- Irrelevant or Unsolicited Content: Posting messages that are unrelated to the conversation or trending topic, often with the goal of promoting something or directing traffic elsewhere.
- Excessive Linking: Tweets that consist primarily of links without much context or original thought, especially if they lead to suspicious or unrelated websites.
- Hashtag Stuffing/Cramming: Using an excessive number of irrelevant hashtags in an attempt to gain visibility, often to manipulate trends.
- Automated or Templated Replies/Mentions: Sending out large volumes of replies or mentions that are generic, pre-written, or clearly automated, without genuine interaction.
2. Account-Related Spam:
- Creating Multiple Accounts for Manipulation: Setting up numerous accounts to artificially amplify messages, engage in fake interactions (likes, retweets, follows), or manipulate trends.
- Fake Engagement: Artificially inflating follower counts, retweets, likes, or other engagement metrics through purchasing or using automated tools.
- Aggressive Following/Unfollowing: Rapidly following and unfollowing a large number of accounts to gain followers, or following accounts solely to get a follow back.
- Impersonation: Creating fake profiles that pretend to be legitimate users, public figures, or brands to deceive others.
- Incomplete or Suspicious Profiles: Spam accounts often have generic or missing profile pictures, vague bios, or usernames with random letters and numbers.
3. Direct Message (DM) Spam:
- Sending Large Volumes of DMs: Sending many direct messages in a short period, especially if they contain the same or similar content.
- Unsolicited Offers/Scams: DMs that promote cryptocurrency scams, fake job offers, phishing links, or other illicit activities.
- Sharing Links Without Explanation: Sending links in DMs without any context, often leading to suspicious or malicious websites.
If you are temporarily labeled by Twitter and you don't think that you did spammy behaviors, I would say that you don't have to!
If you followers are doing spammy behaviors, this affects your profile! The unusual activities of your Twitter followers may cause you get labeled or banned! So, it is very time to check and remove bots in your Twitter follower list.
After that, you will get this notification and you will know that your temporary label is removed!
So, if the Twitter account(s) get this temporary label, their replies won't show up under your posts.
This is the best way to lift temporary label on Twitter. Then, you can see the additional replies, including those that may contain offensive content, under your X posts. This may be the reason why you can't see them and I tried to explain its solution.
Now, let's move to the second possible reason!
Suspect Number 2: Shadowban
You get a notification when you get a temporary label on Twitter. But, if you are shadowbanned, you are not notified.
Everything seems normal other than sudden impression and engagement drops. Shadowbanned accounts don't understand what's happening to their accounts but their impressions will decrease. If a shadowbanned account comments under your post, then you may not see their replies even if you try to see "additional replies".
I am sure that now you think you might be shadowbanned, too. 😆
It is possible! Well, how can we know if we are shadowbanned on Twitter?
There are tools to check if you are shadowbanned and Circleboom is one these tools. It is an enterprise customer of Twitter, so you should be calm when you are using it!
You can check any accounts' shadowban status. So, if shadowbanned accounts reply to your posts, it is quite normal for you to not see their replies!
Why do people get shadowbanned?
Same reasons with temporary label. Unusual activities caused by yourself or your followers. So, again the best way to save your account from Twitter shadowban is to remove bot followers.
I tried to explain what Twitter shadowban is and how to get rid of it above. Now, let's ahead to third possible reason why you don't see additional replies on X, under your posts.
Suspect Number 3: Suspended or Locked Accounts
When an account replies to your Twitter post, then they get locked or suspended for any other reason, it is again quite normal for you not to see their replies under your content.
What is Twitter lock? Why do people get suspended or locked on X?
You see this if you are locked on Twitter:
What should draw your attention is that again "unusual activity" cause this lock!
I explained what these unusual activities are above and how to prevent them. The best way is to remove bots and spams from your account.
Can you unlock your Twitter account? Yes, but it is quite difficult. You should file an appeal and wait Twitter believe in you!
This is how you can appeal for Twitter unlock:
- Log in to your locked X account.
- Go to X's official appeal form. You can usually find this through the help center or by clicking a link provided in the lock notification.
- Clearly explain your situation:If you believe the lock was a mistake, explain why (e.g., "I believe my account was mistakenly locked as I did not engage in any activity violating X's rules. It's possible I was targeted by bot activity or a misunderstanding of my tweets.").If you admit to a mistake, acknowledge it, explain what you've learned, and assure them you won't repeat the behavior.Provide any relevant context or details about the activity that led to the lock.
- Provide accurate contact information: Make sure your username and email address are correct. This is how X will communicate with you.
- Upload ID (if requested): In some cases (e.g., if X suspects impersonation or age verification issues), they might ask for a government-issued ID.
- Submit the form.
I recommend to save your account before it's too late!
So, if locked accounts replied to your post, surely you won't see their replies. Don't worry!
Conclusion
I had a problem and tried to find a fix for "show additional replies including those that may contain offensive content".
First I found the possible reasons why I can't see additional replies under my Twitter posts. Then, I found solutions for these reasons.
I hope this guide will help you keep your Twitter account clean and save it before it's too late!
