Is There a Way to See Who Has Retweeted Someone Else’s Tweet?
When I started working on social media growth strategies, one thing became clear fast: it’s not just about what gets shared—it’s about who shares it. A single retweet from the right person can generate more impact than dozens from inactive accounts.
That’s why I became increasingly interested in finding out who retweeted certain tweets—not just my own, but also competitors’, influencers’, and trending posts in my niche.
I wanted to see who was driving the momentum. Were they verified accounts? Niche influencers? Spam bots? Or potential followers I could engage with?
But I quickly discovered that Twitter doesn’t give you access to the full list of retweeters—at least not in a meaningful way.
Twitter’s Retweet Policy: What You Can See
Twitter (now X) lets any user repost public tweets. These reposts contribute to a tweet’s reach and visibility—but your access to that engagement data is limited.
Here's what Twitter shows:
➡️ You can click the retweet count to see some of the accounts who shared it.
➡️ However, this list is not complete—you'll often only see recent or mutual followers.
➡️ There's no search or filter, and definitely no way to export that list.
So even if a tweet gets 10,000 reposts, you’ll only see a small slice of the engagement.
How to See Who Retweeted Someone Else’s Tweet (Step-by-Step)
Even with Twitter’s limitations, you can still view a partial list of retweeters by following these steps:
Step #1: Open the Tweet
Navigate to the tweet you're interested in. You'll see engagement numbers like views, likes, reposts, and quote tweets.
Step #2: Click the “Repost” Icon
Click the repost (retweet) icon under the tweet. A small menu will appear with two options:
- Repost
- Quote
- View Quotes
Select “View Quotes” from the menu. This will open the Post Engagements page.
Step #3: Switch to the “Reposts” Tab
At the top of the screen, you’ll see two tabs:
- Quotes
- Reposts
Click on Reposts to see the list of people who shared the tweet without adding any comment.
What You Can and Can’t Do
What you’ll be able to see:
🟢 A list of public users who reposted the tweet,
🟢 Their bios and profiles,
🟢 The option to follow or interact with them.
But here’s what’s missing:
🔴 You can’t see the full list if it’s a high-engagement tweet,
🔴 You can’t search or sort the list by followers, location, bio, or language,
🔴 You can’t export this list for marketing or CRM purposes.
That’s a big gap, especially for brands, researchers, and marketers who want actionable insights.

Why Retweeter Data Matters
This might seem like a small feature, but in reality, being able to see and analyze who shared a tweet is extremely valuable.
Here’s why:
- Marketing Research: Find out who amplifies your competitor’s tweets.
- Influencer Outreach: Spot users who consistently retweet content in your niche.
- Trend Tracking: Understand what kind of audience engages with specific messages.
- Community Building: Connect with users already interested in your topic.
- Bot Detection: Identify suspicious retweet patterns in viral tweets.
These insights are vital for refining your Twitter/X strategy—but Twitter doesn’t give you the full picture.
A Better Solution: Circleboom’s Upcoming Retweet Export Tool
That’s why Circleboom Twitter, an official partner of X, is actively working on a feature that solves this problem.
This upcoming feature will allow you to:
➡️ See the full list of users who retweeted any public tweet,
➡️ Filter them by location, language, follower count, bio keywords, and more,
➡️ Export the list in CSV format,
➡️ Access analytics dashboards to visualize your retweeter data.
With this tool, you’ll be able to turn Twitter retweets into real, usable insights.
Final Thoughts
Twitter gives you the number of reposts, but it doesn’t let you truly see who shared the message—and that’s a problem if you care about strategy, growth, or analytics.
With Circleboom’s upcoming feature, you’ll finally be able to go beyond surface-level metrics. You’ll have the power to explore, filter, and export the people behind the shares.
If you’ve ever wished for a way to study who’s amplifying your message—or your competitors’—this tool is going to change everything.
