Since Twitter's calendar for the new verification system was announced, millions of Twitter users have already begun to wonder about getting a verified account on Twitter. Well, let's get to the point: how do you get verified on Twitter?

Three years ago, Twitter suspended the Twitter verification program for general applications. For a while, they have tried to measure public opinion for Twitter verification. "This new policy will lay the foundation for future improvements by defining what verification means, who is eligible for verification and why some accounts might lose verification to ensure the program is more equitable."

A "Request Verification" option will be accessible in the redesigned Twitter account settings interface. Therefore, you won't have to apply through a Twitter verification form anymore.

"We are excited to relaunch public applications for verification in 2021 through a new, self-serve application process that will be available on the Account Settings page on the web and in-app."

Twitter has announced that the elusive "blue tick" or, namely, "blue badge" won't be the only sign to get verified on Twitter. We can say that the new verified Twitter account types and Twitter labels are on the way.

According to the official blog, six types of accounts might get verified;

1. Government

2. Companies, brands, and non-profit organizations

3. News

4. Entertainment

5. Sports

6. Activists, organizers, and other influential Individuals

In this regard, some significant changes are recently added to these categories for the Twitter verification process. For instance,

• Twitter broadens what is meant by 'reference requirements.' To this end, they will be accepting stable Wikipedia articles about individuals to better align with the written sources likes encyclopedias to define notability and content quality.
• Twitter also updated its "News" category to recognize journalists in a broader sense.
• eSports are also listed in the "Sports" category.
• Digital content creators are included in the "Entertainment" category.

Furthermore, Twitter also explained its criteria to define the conditions that will lose the verified Twitter account status.

Under the new policy, Twitter is reserving that they remove the verified Twitter account status because they violated and repeated severe actions of Twitter Policy.

For instance, if your verified Twitter account is at risk of losing its verified status, you will receive an automated email alongside several warning notifications on the app.

Briefly, you will be informed about what changes you need to make to avoid automatic removal of verified account status, namely losing the 'blue tick' on Twitter.

If you have tweets and retweets that can cause you to have second thoughts about the Twitter Policy, it is time to clean them out.

At least, you should go and review your old tweets.

How to get verified on Twitter

You can see the latest Twitter verification program directly in the "Account Settings" tab by now. Don't panic if you don't see this update right away! Considering that Twitter will be processing applications by time, they will eventually roll it out to everyone!

Well, how to get verified then?

Step #1: On your Twitter account. Click on "..." on the left-hand menu.

After that, click on "Settings and privacy".

Step #2:  Once you clicked on "Settings and privacy", go for "Your Account" on the prompting window.

Now, it is almost done.

Step #3: On your Account Information windows, go down and find "Verified" tab.

There, click on "Request Verification" to continue. Done!

Note: If there is no option for "Request Verification," it means that you do not fulfill the Twitter verification requirement. You should go back and check the requirements list to be sure.

Once you have completed these steps, you should expect an email from Twitter within a few days after submitting your application for Twitter verification. But, Twitter says that "it could take up to a few weeks," while they aim to complete the process in a week.

If your application is accepted, the blue badge will appear on your profile automatically. Or, you can resubmit your application 30 days after receiving the decision if you believe you are suitable to receive Twitter verification's blue badge.

We know that the current verification policy may not represent all of the people who should be eligible to be verified on Twitter, so we’re planning to introduce more categories later this year, such as those for scientists, academics, and religious leaders. Who won't be able to verify their Twitter account?

An account will not receive a blue verification tick if any of the following cases are observed:

• Fan, parody, newsfeed, commentary accounts, and accounts are representing pets, fictional characters.
• Accounts that aren't linked with a verified company, brand, or organization as defined here.
• Accounts of individuals or organizations linked to systematic unpleasant or hateful behaviors.

Loss of Verified Twitter Account

Twitter's new verification system includes an active fact-checking tool that automatically removes the blue badge from verified Twitter accounts when needed. This process, which was previously carried out manually by Twitter personnel, may cause a delay in enforcing regulations.

Hence, Twitter can remove the blue tick, the verified Twitter account status, following the Twitter Terms of Service conditions in any case without warning.

Presume the case of a verified Twitter account that repeatedly violates Twitter Rules. In that case, Twitter will immediately delete the verified account's blue tick and even take more action, such as suspending the account for 12 hours or 7 days, depending on the situation.

It means that if an account were locked out for 12 hours or 7 days, that account wouldn't be able to get your Twitter account verified again, at least for the next six months.

As mentioned previously, if you are in that kind of situation, you should reconsider cleaning your Twitter account in all aspects, starting from your tweets to your retweets, likes, and replies.
