What is a quote post?
A plain repost (retweet) shares a post exactly as it is. A quote post adds something: agreement, a counterpoint, a joke, extra context, or a question. The original post appears as an embedded card beneath your text, and people can click through to it.
On Twitter, users originally quoted others by copying text and adding "RT" manually. Twitter introduced a built-in quote tweet feature in 2015, and the "QT" became one of the platform's defining behaviors, used for everything from praise to public criticism. When Twitter became X, quote tweets were renamed quote posts, and newer platforms like Threads and Bluesky built their own versions. Quote posts on different platforms
X: quote any public post, and see the quotes of a post from its engagement details. You can also quote a tweet in a reply.
Threads: tap the repost icon and choose Quote. You can control who can quote your posts (anyone, profiles you follow, or mentioned profiles only).
Bluesky: shows quote counts and lists quote posts, and lets authors detach their original post from a quote or turn off quoting on their own posts, features added to reduce pile-ons.
LinkedIn: "Repost with your thoughts" works in a similar way.
