Case Study: How We Worked with X Content Creators to Skyrocket Monetization!

Creators keep telling me the same story: impressions up, payouts down. One of our enterprise clients, a globally recognized public figure with a gigantic audience hit that exact wall.

My team and I worked shoulder-to-shoulder with them for a full cycle to figure out what X (Twitter) actually rewards in practice, not in theory.

This post is a detailed, field-tested playbook. It’s the exact workflow we ran for a very large account, translated into steps any Twitter X creator, influencer, or brand can execute no fluff, no vague “best practices.”

Outcome: Engagement quality rose, distribution stabilized, and payouts followed. Follower count actually decreased, while monetization improved.

Never be afraid of losing followers. Be afraid of losing money!


The Situation: Record Reach, Shrinking Payouts

The client was posting excellent content and racking up huge impression counts. But their effective revenue per impression had slid. They weren’t doing anything “wrong” in the obvious sense.

The issue was structural: too much of their reach wasn’t the kind advertisers pay for (or that the platform counts toward monetization).

We framed the problem with three simple questions:

  1. Who is actually seeing the content?
  2. When are they seeing it?
  3. How are we amplifying the right people without spamming the wrong ones?

Hypothesis Zero: Eligibility & Engagement Density Beat Raw Volume

We treated “impressions” as two buckets:

  • Eligible attention: real people, in brand-safe contexts, where ads can actually be shown/valued.
  • Everything else: bots, long-inactive followers, locked/suspect accounts, stray low-context impressions (often replies only), etc.

If the second bucket grows faster than the first, you can post record numbers and still get paid less per thousand impressions. So we rebuilt distribution around audience quality and engagement density.


Step 1 : Audit & Purge: Make the Audience Smaller (and Better)

Goal: Raise the share of active followers and reduce “dead weight.”

What we did:

  • Identified accounts with no recent activity (e.g., no tweets/likes in a long time), obviously bot-like, locked/suspicious, or repeatedly flagged by heuristics.
  • Prioritized removal of followers that never engage and never see posts.
  • Accepted a smaller follower count as the price of better monetization.

Never purchase active followers! You can have them for free and it is the only way to grow healthy!

Why it works:

  • Same (or better) engagement from a smaller, real audience = higher engagement rate.
  • Higher engagement rate correlates with more eligible impressions and more stable payouts.

How to execute (tactically):

  • Run periodic follower sweeps.
  • Sort by “active,” remove/soft-block the worst tiers.
  • Re-run after a week to catch residuals.

Mindset shift: Growth ≠ bigger follower number. Growth = bigger share of active followers.


Example (numbers - why this lifts engagement rate)

  • You have 500,000 followers and each post gets ~500 RTs.
  • Before cleanup: 500 ÷ 500,000 = 0.10% engagement rate
  • After cleanup (remove 100,000 dead/bot/inactive → 400,000 followers):
    500 ÷ 400,000 = 0.125% engagement rate
  • Result: Same RTs with fewer (real) followers ⇒ engagement rate rises naturally.

You can't generate passive income with passive followers! Don't be afraid to lose followers who don't engage, let them go away!

Real case (enterprise) - How we ran it with Circleboom!

  • We used Circleboom filters to run a phased cleanup on a 3M+ account:
    1. Inactive filter first → removed long-inactive accounts.
    2. Bot/locked/suspicious signals.
    3. Low-engagement followers (never interact, never see posts).

Step 2: Resurfacing Cadence: Auto-Retweets That Don’t Annoy

Goal : Get each post in front of the segment that missed it the first time.

According to Circleboom’s analysis, the average tweet lifespan is only 12 minutes. That means even if you create excellent content, most of your followers still won’t see it in that narrow window. And if they don’t see it, they can’t engage with it.

The solution isn’t to rewrite and repost the same content over and over. Instead, we use auto-retweets. For every tweet we publish, we schedule 3–5 auto-retweets throughout the day. Doing this manually would be impossible, so we use Circleboom’s X Post Planner.

How We Executed It

  • For every tweet, we scheduled 3–5 auto-retweets at staggered intervals (+1h, +2h, +4h, +8h, etc.).

  • We skipped resurfacing for underperforming posts (no point amplifying duds).
  • We mixed formats: some straight RTs, others quote-RTs with new hooks (fresh angle, stat, or question).

  • Different slices of the audience see each retweet, since followers are time-zoned and session-bound.

Guardrails We Follow

  • Don’t bunch resurfacing too close together.
  • Don’t exceed a reasonable daily total of retweets.
  • Always vary hooks when using quote-RTs to keep it fresh.

Step 3: Timing Windows: Post Only When Your Followers Are Online

Goal

Align posting with follower online clusters — not generic “best times.”

What we did

This step is not guesswork. It’s a big job where we analyze all followers one by one:

  • We check each follower’s tweets and calculate when they are most active. Discover ➡️ how we calculate the best times to post!
  • We assume that if a follower is tweeting, they are online, and therefore available to see and engage with new content.
  • By aggregating this across the whole audience, we generate a true online-time map for that specific account.
The bigger the circle is, the bigger the online audience.

Using those insights:

  • We mapped the client’s audience by daypart and timezone.
  • Shifted the default scheduler to align with those exact windows.   • A/B tested 15–30-minute offsets inside the peak periods to find the “sweet lane” (the 90-minute band where engagement consistently spikes).

Why it works

Distribution systems reward content that picks up fast initial engagement. If your core fans aren’t online, you miss the takeoff window. By using the real activity patterns of followers, not a generic chart, we made sure posts landed exactly when people were there to interact.

Step 4: Focus on Loyal Retweeters and Brand Advocates

Goal: Concentrate on the limited group of followers who consistently retweet, quote, and spread your tweets. These loyal supporters are the ones who can explode your impressions and dramatically extend your reach beyond your own audience. We call them engaging users / Brand Advocates.

What we did

  • We fetched all retweeter and quoter data directly from Circleboom to see which followers were repeatedly engaging with the content. We checked the last 3,200 tweets, and Circleboom provides this information to everyone.
  • This analysis revealed the brand advocates , a very small percentage of followers, but with massive impact on visibility and monetization.

The logic is simple: these people don’t ignore your tweets - they just don’t always see them. When they do see your tweets, they reliably retweet. Our strategy ensured they always saw the client’s tweets and RT them.

Why it works

  • Among engaged users, only 5–10% typically see a given tweet in their feed.
  • By guaranteeing visibility to 100% of proven retweeters through small, targeted ads, we made sure every brand advocate had the chance to amplify.
  • This turned into a 5–10X increase in impressions  not by creating new content, but by making existing content visible to the right loyal engaging followers.
Targeting engaging users will eventually increase your engagement rate!

Budget thinking

  • This is not broad ad buying , it’s precision ignition.
  • Since the audience is extremely limited (only your retweeters), the budget needed is minimal.
  • A spend of just a few hundred dollars was enough to boost impressions by 5–10X.
  • This is also the only reliable way to reduce overall Twitter ad costs while maximizing amplification.

Key insight

Your brand advocates are your distribution engine. They are few in number, but they matter more than the rest of your audience combined. By making sure they always see your tweets, you guarantee consistent amplification and exponential reach.


Step 5: Analyze Top Tweets and Reshare Them

Goal : Extend the life and impact of your best-performing tweets by identifying them through Circleboom analytics, then resharing them strategically with fresh variations. You can automate this process on Circleboom.

What we did

  • We checked post analytics inside Circleboom to see which tweets had the highest impressions, retweets, video views and overall engagement.
  • On a weekly basis, we selected the top-performing tweets from this data.
  • Those tweets were then either:
    • Rescheduled to go out again, or
    • Placed into a new auto-retweet cycle to capture missed followers.

Step 6: Frequency, Safety, and “Don’t Get Rate-Limited

We enforced:

  • Reasonable daily post caps.
  • Retweet spacing (no stacks).
  • Zero duplication across short intervals.
  • No spammy automation patterns that trigger platform guardrails.

Bottom line: Protect your account health. You can’t monetize a throttled account.


Measurement: What We Actually Watch

We avoided vanity totals and tracked:

  • Eligible RPM trend (revenue / eligible impressions)
  • Active-audience ratio (active followers / total followers)
  • Early engagement velocity (first 30–60 minutes)
  • Advocate amplification rate (how often the advocate cohort doubles initial reach)
  • Resurfacing uplift (incremental reach on +8h / +24h / +48h)

If a metric didn’t inform a decision in the next 7 days, we stopped reporting it.


What Changed (Without the Vanity Spin)

  • Follower count decreased after the purge.
  • Engagement rate climbed and stabilized.
  • Resurfaced posts routinely reached new slices of the same audience.
  • Payouts aligned more tightly with the content’s true reach, and effective revenue per impression moved up, not down.

No magic. Just distribution discipline.

Your 14-Day Implementation Plan

Days 1–3: Audit

  • Pull the follower list.
  • Flag long-inactive, bot-like, locked/problem accounts.
  • Remove in waves (don’t nuke; prune).

Days 4–6: Timing

  • Map follower online windows.
  • Shift the scheduler to your top two dayparts.

Days 7–9: Resurfacing
