I used to get excited every time I got a new follower. Whether it was someone with a cool profile pic or a verified badge, it felt like progress. I assumed that the more followers I had, the better my Twitter/X presence would be.
But then something weird started happening.
Even though my follower count was going up, my engagement was going down.
Fewer likes, fewer retweets, fewer replies. I started second-guessing my content. Was I not interesting anymore? Was I posting at the wrong time?
I changed my tweet styles. I tried visuals, threads, polls, hashtags. But nothing changed. That’s when I had a moment of clarity: maybe it wasn’t my tweets—maybe it was my followers.
Why Who Follows You Is Just as Important as Who You Follow
It’s easy to obsess over how many followers we have, but here’s the thing Twitter/X doesn’t tell you: your followers impact your performance.
➡️ Fake or inactive accounts lower your engagement rate.
➡️ Spammy followers make your profile look untrustworthy.
➡️ Twitter’s algorithm relies on meaningful interactions—if bots or ghost accounts follow you, they don’t interact, and your tweets get buried.
➡️ And when real people check your profile, they notice who follows you—whether you like it or not. That’s your social proof.
You can’t grow a healthy Twitter/X account without a healthy audience.
So I asked myself: Can I actually control who follows me?
Option 1: Turning Your Twitter/X Account Private
One obvious solution is to go private.
Once you lock your account:
❇️ You’ll get a follow request every time someone wants to follow you.
❇️ You can review their profile and accept or reject.
It’s a great way to stop spam and protect your content.
And if your goal is to grow publicly or reach new audiences, going private is like building a wall around your tweets. Not ideal.
In my case, I didn’t want to lose that discoverability. I wanted to stay public—but still have control.
Option 2: Analyzing and Removing Followers with Circleboom Twitter
This is where things finally clicked for me.
I turned to Circleboom Twitter, an official partner of X that gives you detailed follower insights and management tools Twitter simply doesn’t offer.
When I connected my account, I could instantly see:
- Which followers were fake or bots
- Which ones were inactive for months or years
- Which were high-quality, verified, or genuinely engaged
- And even those that were suspicious or irrelevant
It broke everything down visually and automatically. No guesswork. No digging through profiles.
So I started cleaning up.
With a few clicks, I filtered out the low-quality followers and removed them from my account. My follower count dropped a bit—but my engagement? It bounced right back.
How to Use Circleboom to Take Control of Your Follower List
If you’re dealing with the same issue, here’s how you can clean up your follower list:
Step #1: Go to the Circleboom Twitter website and log in with your credentials.
If you’re a new user, sign up—it’s quick and easy!
Step #2: On the left-side menu, click on the Followers section. A dropdown menu will appear. Select Fake/Bot Followers to see the full list of your followers.
If you want to remove specific accounts, such as inactive users, you can directly select these categories from the dropdown menu instead of viewing all followers.
Step #3: You will see a complete list of your low-quality followers.
Use the Filter Options on the right-hand side to refine your list. You can filter followers based on engagement levels, fake/spam accounts, inactivity, verification status, and more.
Step #4: Browse through your followers and check the boxes next to the users you want to remove.
You can also select multiple users at once. Once you have selected the users, click on the Remove Followers button at the top.
Alternatively, you can remove individual followers by clicking the red remove icon next to their name on the right side of the list.
A confirmation message will appear asking if you are sure you want to remove the selected followers. Click ''Remove Followers''.
Step #5: Since the removal action is processed via the Circleboom Remove Twitter/X Followers extension, you need to install it to complete the process.
Click on Download the Extension and install it from the Chrome Web Store.
Once installed, you can easily remove followers.
Step #6: After installing the extension, Circleboom will automatically add all your removal requests to the extension queue.
Click on the Start button to begin the removal process.
The extension will process your requests and remove the selected followers.
That's it! Your selected followers are now removed automatically.
⚠️ Important Warning: Once the removal process begins, do not close your Chrome browser or the Circleboom tab. The tool will automatically remove followers in the background, but if you close the tab or exit Chrome, the process will stop.

Final Thoughts: Clean House, Grow Smarter
At first, I thought follower control wasn’t possible. But it turns out, it’s not just possible—it’s essential.
I didn’t want to hide my account or stop growing. I just wanted to grow the right way. And Circleboom made that possible.
If you care about your Twitter/X performance, don’t just focus on what you post—start paying attention to who’s watching.
Because sometimes, growth isn’t about adding more. It’s about removing what holds you back.
